Where to Stay in Amsterdam: The Pulitzer

Located on the most famous canal in Amsterdam, the Prisengracht, stands The Pulitzer Hotel. Just steps away from the Anne Frank House, The Pulitzer is a quirky five-star hotel made up of 25 connected canal houses and gardens full of history. The buildings date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and each has its own unique story. For example, my room was located in canal house Prisengracht 319 which was a silk shop during the 1700s. Although renovated, The Pulitzer kept its original Dutch architecture alive, from steep staircases to gabled facades.

As soon as you step through The Pulitzer’s front door, you will be greeted by dozens of stunning flowers, including tulips, a symbol of the Netherlands. The lobby is cozy with dark, moody walls accented by eye-catching decor such as colorful and unusually shaped furniture, modern lamps, artsy bookshelves, and intriguing paintings. The ground floor has an elegant restaurant, a terrace café, an Art Deco style bar (voted the Best Bar in Amsterdam in 2019) overlooking the canals, and a lovely garden courtyard decorated with sculptures and hammock swings.

Has anybody seen a sign of summer, yet? We're ready!

My room had the same feel as the lobby—cozy with purple, blue, and neutral tones. The bathroom was small but ultra modern and cute with white tiles and a porthole-style window looking out toward the bedroom. The views from the bedroom onto the Prisengracht Canal were unbeatable. There’s nothing like being in Amsterdam and watching boats and bicycles cruise by your window.

Besides the Anne Frank House, the Pulitzer is also within walking distance to many of the other major sights of the city like the Rijksmuseum, Vondelpark, Van Gogh Museum, and the Red Light District.
